My network marketing story is almost too good to be true. If I hadn't lived it, I wouldn't believe it!
Born in New Orleans, I was raised in an East Texas farming community named Nacodoches. Life was good out in the country. We were too poor to know it and too happy to care. Despite being poor, my mother taught my siblings and me some of the keys to happiness and success. Although I have not always followed her advice, it has always been my ambition to live my life as my parents did - a life devoted to happiness, family and service to God.
My mother taught us to work and taught us about life while we worked. She taught us to dream. She taught that with hard work, dedication, and a firm conviction never to quit, dreams can become reality. She also taught the importance of helping others reach their dreams. She taught that true happiness comes from service to others. She taught that happiness comes from within and is not dependant on money or material possessions.
With those simple truths and a strong faith in God, I set off into the world. I attended college in Texas first then in Utah. I followed the example of my brother and brother-in-law and become a CPA. Unfortunately, although I could make a good living and help others as a CPA, I found the work to be painfully boring. So I made plans to couple my accounting education with a law degree. As a naïve young man, the law sounded like a more exciting way to make a living and still help others (my perception of the practice of law has diminished some over the years).
Fortunately, before I was to proceed with my legal aspirations, a good friend told me about a company he and others were starting. They intended to sell world-class products via a marketing system known as network marketing and they needed an accountant. Although I was disillusioned with accounting, I was assured this company would help people throughout the world.
You can call it luck, but I believe I was blessed to be one of the original seven shareholders in a company that has become one of the largest network marketing companies of all time, Nu Skin. I spent seventeen years with Nu Skin. They were challenging years but we experienced amazing success. Nu Skin continues to be one of the greatest companies (next to Exfuze, of course) due in large part to the extraordinary vision of Blake Roney and Steve Lund. I truly worked with some of the brightest minds in the industry. We worked day and night and had experiences beyond anything I had ever dreamed. All I can say is THANK YOU THANK YOU to Blake, Steve, Sandie, Nedra, Brook and Kirk!
After leaving Nu Skin I decided to try my hand at being a distributor. I studied network marketing for over 18 months and finally decided to join a company named Synergy. After all I had experienced my expectations were very high, but to my surprise I was not successful in the beginning. It was the hardest thing I had ever done. I booked meeting rooms, made calls and sent out emails, but no one came. I failed so badly I was embarrassed to talk about the business for a week.
I went back to the little town where I was raised with my tail between my legs. I spoke from my heart to my mother about the company I had joined. She could see the fire in me but could also sense that I was struggling. She asked if I could share my dream with a few of her friends. My mother showed up an hour later with twenty-five ladies ages 70 to 85. I turned on my power point and began to talk about the things I had been taught, and within minutes they were all peacefully snoring. At that point my mother did something that changed my career and my life, she turned off my computer, woke up her friends, and said, "Keith, share with my friends what you shared with me." I was floored. I realized I was't speaking from my heart. So for the next thirty minutes I spoke from my heart and every one of those ladies either joined or purchased product. After it was over my mother stated, "talk from your heart and you will find success." It was a changing point in my life.
It wasn't until I truly began to speak from my heart that my business began to grow. The first nine months I went to every meeting, both opportunity and training. I was the biggest student. My first few months my 75 year-old mother was earning more than me, but I was learning from everyone. I was humble and teachable.
We developed a system of duplication and were able to help thousands fulfill their dreams. It took me more than nine months to earn over $3,000 in a month, but then it began to multiply exponentially. I was told our team reached a sales level of over one hundred million US dollars ($100,000,000) per year. It was a lot of fun, but that was not the company for me. Instead of going into the reasons I left, I want to focus on what happened next.
After being let down by Synergy, I decided to retire. But that lasted about five minutes, so I began to research companies all the more. I searched across Europe, Asia, and the USA. I have been in the industry for over twenty-five years, but I have never found the perfect fit for me. I have been in two companies and made more money than I ever dreamed, but something has always been missing. When Exfuze found me I felt that my hopes and dreams would finally be fulfilled. I always wanted to be a part of a company in which I know so many will succeed.
I say that Exfuze found me, but it was really a great, persistent networker named Eddie Freeman who presented Exfuze to me. I am so grateful that he made the call and shared this amazing opportunity with me. I am also grateful to my good friends Greg and Krista VanCamp who joined the Company based on my invitation. Within their first few months with Exfuze and their first experience ever with network marketing, they have helped the dreams of thousands come to life.
